The Jar

The Jar is a specialist whisky shop at 33 Ayr Street in Troon, run by David Grant. The shelves hold more than 300 single malts drawn from Scotland's working distilleries and a number of closed ones, with roughly forty per cent of stock made up of independent bottlings not typically found in supermarkets. Prices range from around £24 for an entry-level dram to several thousand pounds for rare and collectable releases. The shop also carries Scottish gins, whisky-related gifts, glassware and hip flasks, and stocks goods from other local producers where it can. It opens Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and runs tastings in the shop as well as private and corporate sessions by appointment. Visitors to nearby Royal Troon during Open Championship years form part of its passing trade, but the core custom is local, built on repeat visits and Grant's knowledge of the range on the shelves.
