Falconhurst was built in the 1850s by John Chetwynd Talbot, a barrister who served as Attorney-General to the future King Edward VII, and the house, church and estate village he created in Markbeech remain in the Talbot family six generations on. Charles Talbot now runs the estate day to day, his wife Nicola leads the garden team, and their son George organises its calendar of events. The farm shop sells home-grown fruit and vegetables in season, freshly baked bread, local beers and wines, and preserves and sauces made on the estate or bought in from other Kent producers. Designed by architect David Brandon and built of local Wealden sandstone, the main house overlooks gardens open to visitors alongside the shop. Farm shop hours are Monday and Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and weekends, 9am to 3pm; closed Tuesdays.
