Henry Hoggs

Henry Hoggs has traded as a bookshop on Montrose High Street since 1902, making it one of the longest-running independent shops in the town. The bookshop proper is downstairs, reached by a steep flight of stairs, stocking Scottish authors and titles alongside general fiction and non-fiction. Upstairs holds newspapers, stationery, cards and small gifts, a mix that has kept the shop relevant as a daily stop rather than a specialist destination alone. It remains family-run and independently owned, with none of the branch-store uniformity of the chains that have replaced similar shops elsewhere. For Montrose residents it doubles as a newsagent as much as a bookshop, a combination that has helped it keep trading over more than a century.
