Kingsbarns Distillery operates from East Newhall Farm, where the surrounding fields still grow barley for the single malt. Douglas Clement began developing the site in 2009 and sold the project to the Wemyss family in 2013; the distillery opened in November 2014. Isabella Wemyss now works as production director, selecting casks for maturation, and the wider family business includes Wemyss Malts and Darnley's Gin, distilled in a converted farm cottage on the same site since 2017. The Kingsbarns name comes from the barns once used to store grain before it was carted off to Falkland Palace. A café and shop run daily alongside guided tours, with the café open 9:30am to 4:30pm and the shop until 5pm.
