The Steamship Sir Walter Scott has carried passengers on Loch Katrine from Trossachs Pier since 1900. Built on the Clyde at Denny's yard in Dumbarton in 1899, the vessel was dismantled after her trials, hauled overland by horse teams from Loch Lomond to Stronachlachar, since no road reached Loch Katrine, and reconstructed on the water. She is the only screw steamer still in regular passenger service in Scotland. The charitable trust that operates her also runs shorter circular cruises on the diesel-powered Lady of the Lake, alongside a café, shop and cycle hire at Trossachs Pier. All operations run from this single Loch Katrine site, with no other loch cruises under the same operator.
