MacKenzie Leather Edinburgh is a working leather workshop and shop on St Mary's Street, just off the Royal Mile, where craftsmen cut, stitch and burnish full-grain Scottish and Italian hides into bags, briefcases, belts, sporrans and small accessories at a bench visible from the shop floor. The wider MacKenzie Leather business began in 1978 on Scotland's west coast, and this Edinburgh shop opened in 1990; the Edinburgh and Arran operations have traded as separate independent businesses since 2004. Customers can watch pieces being made and commission bespoke work. It holds a five-star VisitScotland grading, the only leather workshop and showroom on the Royal Mile to do so. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, and is part of the St Mary's Street Makers group of neighbouring craft businesses.
