Potter Andrew Crouch has worked from 45 Mill Street since 1982, one of the longest-established maker's studios in Ludlow. The shop at the front displays his hand-thrown, reduction-fired stoneware; behind it a window looks into the working studio, and further back, through a walled garden, sit the kilns. Trained at Bath Academy of Art, Crouch produces functional tableware, from cups and saucers to bowls, plates, jugs and pitchers, finished in three signature glazes: tenmoku brown, pale celadon green and white. Ceramicist Isatu Hyde also shows work here. Everything on sale is made on the premises rather than bought in, and visitors can usually watch throwing or glazing while they browse. The combination of retail, studio and firing space in a single Mill Street plot makes it an unusually complete working pottery to visit.
