Mearns T. McCaskie founded this butcher's shop in Wemyss Bay in 1935. Nigel Ovens, the founder's grandson, now runs the business with his mother, Elizabeth, and his wife, Helen, having taken full control in 1999. The family bought the neighbouring café in 2012 and later invested eight hundred thousand pounds in a production unit, which Princess Anne opened in February 2017. The shop sells Aberdeen Angus beef dry-aged for a minimum of thirty days, lamb reared organically at Scalpsie Bay, and pork and chicken alongside its own haggis, black pudding, sausages and pies. Judges have named McCaskie's the UK's Butcher's Shop of the Year for three years running, and its haggis and black pudding have both taken national titles. The café at the front serves breakfast and lunch through the week.
