RPM Music

RPM Music has traded from 4 Old George Yard, off High Bridge in Newcastle city centre, since 1988, making it one of the longest-running independent record shops in the North East. The shop stocks new and secondhand vinyl across LP, 12 inch and 7 inch formats, alongside CDs and music DVDs, with stock ranging from new releases to rarer pressings bought in from trade contacts and customer collections. A side section holds vintage hi-fi equipment and furniture, including turntables and amplifiers bought and sold alongside the records. The shop runs a mail-order operation and keeps a parallel listing on Discogs for buyers outside the region. Staff take in collections directly from sellers rather than through a distributor, and the shop has stayed independently owned while other city-centre record retailers have closed over the same period. It takes part in Record Store Day releases each spring.
