ClayKilnCraft

ClayKilnCraft is an open-access pottery studio at 20 Church Road in Crystal Palace, started in 2014 by ceramic artist Aliya Rashid, who began by offering wheel-throwing lessons from her own studio space. The business now runs beginner and intermediate classes in wheel-throwing and hand-building, twelve-week courses, and a membership scheme giving trained potters studio access for firing and independent practice. Classes run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday daytime, with members able to use the studio Monday to Friday during the day and evening, and weekends. The studio fires its own kilns on site for members' and students' work. It operates as a single premises rather than a chain of studios, and Rashid remains its sole proprietor. The business has run crowdfunding campaigns to fund equipment upgrades and continues to serve a mixed base of complete beginners and returning potters from across South East London.
