Finnegan's Garden Centre sits on the family farm on the Silverbridge Road outside Newry, converted into a horticultural nursery in 1988 by Pat Finnegan after his daughter Margaret trained in horticulture. Margaret Finnegan and her sister Katherine Finnegan-Agnew now run the business, which grows close to 90 per cent of the plants it sells on the same site rather than buying in stock. The centre carries trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, bedding plants and hanging baskets raised through the seasons in its own polytunnels and outdoor beds, alongside compost, tools, pots and garden furniture. Staff advise on plant choice for the local soil and exposure typical of South Armagh gardens. The business has supplied plants to households and landscapers across the district for close to four decades, building its reputation on stock grown rather than shipped in from elsewhere. It remains a single family-run concern rather than part of a larger retail group.
