Isle of May Boat Trips runs wildlife cruises from the Middle Pier on Shore Street in Anstruther harbour, out to the Isle of May National Nature Reserve six miles offshore. The skippers, including Rab, Simon, Pedro, Steven and Billy, hold commercial masters' certificates and years of experience working the Firth of Forth. Trips run in purpose-built rigid hulled inflatables named Osprey and Saorsa, plus the larger Saltwind for calmer-water sailings, with the season running from April to September to match the island's opening dates set by NatureScot. The Isle of May Experience covers the return crossing and around two hours ashore among an estimated 46,000 breeding pairs of puffins and other seabirds, plus the island's ruined monastery and three lighthouses. The operator also runs shorter sea safaris, fishing trips and a dedicated photography sailing timed for close views of gannets and Bass Rock. Sailings depend on tide and weather and are booked directly through the operator.
