The Museum of the Cumbraes sits in the main foyer of Garrison House on College Street, Millport, covering 4,000-year-old stone cists, 18th-century smuggling, life during WWII and the island today. The house was built in 1745 as the residence of the captain and officers of the revenue sailing ship Royal George, and rebuilt after a major fire in 2001. The same building holds Millport Library, a café, a craft shop and the doctor's surgery.
