The Nancy Smillie Shop has traded since 1988, when its founder, a ceramics graduate of Glasgow School of Art who had worked from her own studio at Saltoun Pottery, opened her first premises in Princes Square. Growth eventually took the business to its current address at 53 Cresswell Lane, off Byres Road in Hillhead, where the shopfront is given over to contemporary jewellery, hand-thrown ceramics, hand-blown glass, furniture and designer gifts from Scottish and international makers. Nancy Smillie continues to select the stock herself, favouring small workshops over mass manufacturers. The Cresswell Lane shop is the sole current outlet, the earlier city-centre premises having closed as the business consolidated to this one West End address.
