Ubiquitous Chip

Ubiquitous Chip occupies a former stable and coach house on Ashton Lane in Glasgow's West End, where it has traded since 1976 (the restaurant itself opened nearby in 1971). Founder Ronnie Clydesdale built the menu around Scottish produce at a time when few Glasgow restaurants did so, and that focus continues today. The main dining room sits under a glass roof around a courtyard with a small koi pond, cobbled flooring and murals by artist Alasdair Gray. The building also houses a brasserie and several bars across its upper floors. The restaurant holds two AA Rosettes and has long been considered one of the West End's defining addresses for modern Scottish cooking. It has anchored Ashton Lane's development into one of Glasgow's best-known restaurant and bar streets since the 1970s.
