Séverine Sloboda and Liam Hanlon opened Made From Grapes on Nithsdale Road in late 2020, when it was classed as an essential retailer and could trade while most shops around it stayed shut. Sloboda had already spent years working as a sommelier in London, including spells at the Criterion, the Bleeding Heart and Angelus, before starting her own import business, Sevslo Wine, the year before. The shop and bar deal mostly in natural and biodynamic wine from small European growers, alongside a shelf of spirits, beer and deli items such as chocolate. Bottles can be drunk in with a plate of small dishes or bought to take away, and the pair run tastings and wine subscriptions from the same premises. It remains a single shop on the Southside, run by its two founders rather than expanded into a chain.
