Redhall Walled Garden sits within Colinton Dell on the banks of the Water of Leith, inside an eighteenth-century walled garden attached to the former Redhall House estate. Since 1985 it has been run by the mental health charity SAMH as a centre for therapeutic horticulture, where around fifty people recovering from mental health problems work alongside staff growing vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants across the six-acre site. The walled garden and its summerhouse are listed structures, and the grounds retain glasshouses, herbaceous borders and a network of paths open to the public on weekdays. Surplus plants are sold from the garden at prices below those of commercial nurseries, with proceeds supporting the project. Open days through the year let visitors explore areas not normally accessible and meet the gardeners who tend the site.
