Joe Smith roasts coffee at Tigermoth from a loft on Daveys Lane, having trained at a specialty roastery in Brighton before moving to Lewes to roast under his own name. He sources beans directly and roasts them on site, selling by the bag and through wholesale accounts, while business manager Beatrice Brooke, previously in NHS management, runs the operational side. Attached to the roastery is Bum Bum Bun, a small cafe serving coffee and food on weekday and Saturday mornings only. The setup lets customers watch roasting in progress rather than buying beans blind. Tigermoth supplies several other independent cafes in the area alongside its own counter. It functions as a working roastery first, with the cafe built around the roasting operation rather than the reverse.
