No. 34 is a wine bar and bistro on Lewes High Street, opened in 2024 by restaurant consultant Hugo together with his son Tom and partner Susan. Hugo has previously set up restaurants in Dublin, Scotland and London, and brought that experience to a single dual-aspect room with a zinc counter facing the small open kitchen. The wine list favours organic and biodynamic growers from Spain, Italy, France and Portugal, many of whom Hugo has bought from directly for years, with bottles available to drink in or take away. Food follows the seasons in short, changing plates built around cheese, charcuterie and simple cooked dishes rather than a fixed menu. Fresh wildflowers on the tables and pink-washed walls give the room its distinct, unfussy character. Reservations are recommended, particularly at weekends.
