Vine House Farm sits on working arable land at Deeping St Nicholas, farmed by Nicholas Watts since 1964. Watts, a fourth-generation farmer made an MBE in 2006 for services to conservation, began feeding surplus rapeseed to birds in his farmyard; when visitors asked where they could buy the same feed, he planted five acres of sunflowers in 1992 and built what is now one of the country's largest growers of birdseed crops. The farm shop sells home-grown fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs and meat from an in-store butchery, alongside the bird food range. The café seats seventy inside and thirty on a deck overlooking a wildlife garden, pond and short nature trail through the fen. Open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and Sunday, 9am to 4pm.
