A working theatre on St Leonard's Place dating to 1744, run as a charity by the York Citizens' Theatre Trust rather than any commercial chain. The 750-seat auditorium stages a full annual programme of drama, comedy and the long-running Christmas pantomime, and reopened in 2016 after a redevelopment of its front-of-house spaces and access.
