Boston Belle River and Sea Trips began in 1994, when local farmer Rodney Bowles turned his hobby into a commercial venture with a twelve-seat boat named Woebetide. The business, now trading as Boston Waterways Ltd, is still independently run by Bowles with long-serving volunteers and staff, some with over twenty-five years' service. Trips depart from Sluice Bridge on Witham Bank East in Boston aboard the Boston Belle, a wooden-hulled passenger boat built in 1949, or the hybrid-electric Prince George. Routes run through the Grand Sluice and along the River Haven past Boston's port into the Wash, where seals and seabirds are often seen near the River Welland, or inland along the calmer River Witham. Scheduling depends on tides and weather, and both private charters and scheduled public cruises are available.
