Pictish Brewing Company has operated from a unit on the Canalside Industrial Estate in Rochdale since 2000, when it was founded by Richard Sutton using plant taken from the former Freelance & Firkin brewpub. Paul Wesley, a friend of Sutton's, took over running the brewery in 2013 and continues to brew a range of cask-conditioned ales, including Brewers Gold, a pale golden session beer, Alchemists Ale, Talisman IPA and Pictish Porter. The beers are supplied mainly to pubs and beer festivals across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and West Yorkshire rather than sold directly to the public, and the brewery does not keep a shop or taproom on site. It remains listed as a supplying brewery by CAMRA's Rochdale, Oldham & Bury branch and continues to use traditional ingredients such as Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt and chocolate malt in its cask ales. Orders and enquiries are handled by phone rather than online.
