Robbie's Whisky Merchants trades from 3 Sandgate in central Ayr, a family-run drinks shop owned by the Russell family with roots going back to 1984 and its present form dating from a 2003 relaunch. The shelves hold hundreds of Scotch whiskies, from everyday bottlings to collectors' items, limited editions and bottles from closed and silent distilleries, alongside the shop's own single-cask releases chosen and bottled under its label. Beyond whisky the range has grown to take in other spirits, liqueurs, wines and ales, with rotating monthly offers. It describes itself as Ayr's only independent, family-run drinks retailer, and the counter trade is backed by a substantial mail-order and online business that ships bottlings well beyond Ayrshire. The Sandgate shop remains the base, a working specialist merchant rather than a general off-licence.
