Thackeray's occupies a timber-framed house on London Road dating from the seventeenth century, once lived in by the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray. Chef Richard Phillips opened the restaurant in 2001 and the kitchen has held three AA Rosettes. The building is Grade II* listed. Cooking applies classic European technique to seasonal, locally sourced produce.
