The Gaydon occupies a house built around 1850 on Derbe Road in St Annes, three minutes' walk from the beach, put up originally as a holiday home for mill owners and their senior staff. During the Second World War it housed airmen from the nearby Warton airfield, now the BAE Systems site along the estuary. The building has traded as a bed and breakfast since 1945; its name recalls a former owner, a Scottish man called Donald, known locally decades ago as Gay Don. Keith and Kate took over the business on 8 September 2017 and run it as a six-room B&B, including a ground-floor room and a two-room family suite, with cooked breakfasts covering full English, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Guests are offered a complimentary glass of sherry on arrival, a house custom carried over from previous owners.
