The Hunter Gallery was established in 2001 by Paul and Jacqueline Foster, first trading from Coconut House on Hall Street in Long Melford before relocating to Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds around 2017, between the Abbey Gardens and St Edmundsbury Cathedral. The gallery exhibits paintings and prints from Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex artists alongside other UK-based painters, with stock focused on landscape and representational work aimed at buyers furnishing homes rather than institutional collectors. As an owner-run gallery rather than a co-operative or council-backed space, the Fosters select and hang the exhibited artists themselves and change displays through the year. Its Angel Hill address places it among Bury St Edmunds' cluster of independent art dealers near the cathedral precinct. Opening hours run Tuesday to Saturday during the day, closed Monday and Sunday, with other viewing times available by appointment. Now in its third location over more than two decades, it has kept the same family ownership throughout.
