The Kensington Arms on Stanley Road was bought in October 2016 by Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton and Guy Newell, formerly managing director of Butcombe Brewery, who reopened the pub the following month after converting its two upstairs function rooms into supper rooms and installing a new bar. Eggleton earned his Michelin star at The Pony & Trap in Chew Magna and applies the same sourcing approach here, with the kitchen cooking English classics over wood and coal: mussels with perry and cream, faggots with cauliflower cheese and Guinness gravy, and a Sunday roast using aged beef, fresh fish and vegetables from South West suppliers. The pub keeps a beer garden with heaters for winter and first-floor rooms available for private hire. It operates as a chop house and gastropub rather than a straightforward local, drawing custom from across Redland and Bishopston for its weekend roasts and seasonal menu changes.
