Will Devlin and his brother Matt opened The Small Holding in 2018 inside a former inn on Ranters Lane, Kilndown. An acre of land behind the dining room grows more than two hundred varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs using no-dig methods, with pigs and chickens kept alongside the beds. The tasting menu, roughly ten courses at dinner and seven at lunch, changes daily according to what the garden and nearby growers can supply that morning. The restaurant held a Michelin Green Star among the first group awarded when the category launched in 2021, alongside three AA Rosettes. Stripped wooden floors and mismatched chairs sit under a decked terrace that looks over the working garden.
