The Steamie has traded from a narrow shopfront on Argyle Street since 2014, one of the cafes that built Finnieston's reputation among west end coffee drinkers. Owner Stephen and his wife make the cakes and soup in house each morning, while the espresso itself comes from beans roasted on a Garanti HSG5 machine at a dedicated facility across in Motherwell. The room is deceptively deep, running back from a tight frontage into a long seating area filled most mornings with laptops and prams. Food service is straightforward: soup, toasties and cake rather than an extensive brunch menu. Regulars treat it as a meeting point rather than a quick stop, and staff know most by name. It remains independently owned, with no other branches.
