Sandy McKelvie founded Two Towns Down after a brewing and distilling degree at Heriot-Watt University in 2019, having already gained recipe-development experience at Black Isle Brewing and pulled pints at The Hanging Bat as a student. He started as a nomadic brewer, renting time on other breweries' kits and storing finished cans in his parents' garage, before opening a taproom on Back Sneddon Street that made Two Towns Down the first brewery in Paisley in 125 years, since the old Sacell Brewery closed. The name and much of the branding draw on the Paisley Pattern as a symbol of local creativity. All the beers are vegetarian and most are vegan, brewed using Scottish ingredients. The taproom pours ten of the brewery's own beers on tap and opens Friday afternoons and Saturdays, with guided brewery tours and a monthly quiz night.
