Whitby Coastal Cruises runs pleasure boat trips from Brewery Steps in Whitby's lower harbour, a business built up by Bryan Clarkson since 2001, when he began running short river trips on a 12-seat former Dutch lifeboat named Dash. His son David joined the business in 2005, the year the harbour fleet expanded with the larger Esk Belle II. The company now operates four boats from the harbour: Summer Queen and Esk Belle III for sea trips and longer coastal and wildlife cruises, Dash II for short harbour and river tours up the Esk, and Coastal Fisher for fishing trips. Seasonal sailings include sunset and twilight cruises and dedicated wildlife trips that look for seals, dolphins and minke whales feeding off the coast in late summer and autumn. It remains family owned and based solely in Whitby, with no operations elsewhere.
