Bay Island Voyages runs powered rigid-inflatable boat trips from a kiosk on the Mermaid Quay boardwalk in Cardiff Bay, operating since 1999. The company offers a short bay voyage around the barrage and inner harbour, longer coastal runs into the Bristol Channel, and crossings to the islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm, both reachable only by boat. Skippers hold commercial endorsements and brief passengers on safety and waterproofs before departure; boats can reach speeds of around 60mph in open water. Trips run through the main visitor season, with private charters, stag and hen outings, and children's parties available by arrangement outside standard sailing times. The operation is one of the longest-running independent boat trip providers on the waterfront, predating much of the current Mermaid Quay redevelopment, and continues to sail from the same stretch of boardwalk it started on over two decades ago. Reviews consistently note the crew's local knowledge of the bay and channel.
