Matt Townley taught primary school; his partner Suze practised law; lockdown turned them into home bakers — a micro-bakery called One Mile Bakery, run from the kitchen — and the micro-bakery outgrew the house into a shop on Cross Street. The local press calls them the Flour Couple, which they seem to have accepted with good grace. Small-batch sourdough and laminated pastry lead, with a short deli counter of local cheese, butter, smoked salmon and kimchi behind; open six days with a proper Sunday morning shift, which in Altrincham counts as public service.
