OBJECT has traded on Beech Road in Chorlton since husband and wife Alex and Rachael Otterwell opened their first physical shop there in September 2016, having previously run an online-only store together since 2009. The compact, carefully edited space stocks menswear, womenswear, homeware and independent publications, with an emphasis on transitional, season-less clothing and interiors pieces sourced largely from Denmark. Staff know the stock well enough to suggest a gift or an outfit rather than leaving customers to browse unaided, and the shop's window displays are changed regularly. Upstairs, the owners let a self-catering apartment furnished with pieces from the shop, extending the OBJECT approach into an overnight stay for visitors to Chorlton.
