Built in 1898 to a design by W. G. R. Sprague, the Grade II-listed building at Notting Hill Gate operated first as a theatre, then as a cinema from 1923, before closing as the Coronet Cinema in 2014 and being bought by the fringe theatre company Print Room, which had been running an 80-seat space off Hereford Road since 2010. Print Room reopened the building for live performance and in May 2019 renamed the operation The Coronet Theatre, restoring its original 1898 name. Run today by artistic director Anda Winters, the venue programmes theatre, dance, film, poetry and music across a 195-seat main auditorium and a 90-seat studio space called The Print Room. The Coronet Theatre is a registered charity, number 1141921, producing its own commissions alongside visiting companies rather than operating as a receiving house for touring commercial shows, and remains a single site rather than one of several venues under common ownership.
