Victoria Tappin owns the Kentish Rifleman, a sixteenth-century free house at Dunks Green between the villages of Plaxtol and Shipbourne, within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a few miles from both Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. Low oak-beamed ceilings and open fireplaces survive from the original building, and the kitchen cooks food from scratch rather than reheating, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free versions of most dishes and a weekly Pie and a Pint night on Tuesdays. As a free house it is not tied to any single brewery, so the real ale and wine list changes according to what the cellar has in. Dogs are welcome in designated areas, free parking is available on site, and the pub keeps to traditional lunch and evening food service rather than serving all day.
