Brass CastleBrewery

Phil and Harriet Saltonstall began brewing in a Yorkshire garage before moving the operation into Malton in 2014 with what the brewery calls a simple PBC brewkit, manual but functional, funded by money borrowed from family and friends. Brass Castle now specialises in vegan and gluten-free beers, among them the Beowulf helles lager and the Bad Kitty vanilla porter, brewed at 10 Yorkersgate. A canning line was added in 2018 and the brewhouse was rebuilt in 2023 with new equipment that nearly doubled capacity. The taproom next door pours the beers straight from the tanks, open Tuesday to Sunday afternoons and evenings, closed only on Mondays. The brewery describes itself as an independent Yorkshire producer rather than part of any national craft-beer group.
