Ourdough is a small artisan bakery on The Broadway in Amersham Old Town, which grew out of a stall in the grounds of the Griffin pub before taking its own premises. Everything centres on long-fermented sourdough: a house loaf and rotating specials, plus laminated viennoiserie such as croissants and pastries, polenta rolls and, on Saturdays, a pizza service. The bakery works in small daily batches and is known for closing once it has sold out, so mornings are the reliable time to visit. It is independent and single-site, run hands-on by its bakers, with a following that extends well beyond the town. Opening runs Wednesday to Saturday, with every third Sunday added, and Mondays and Tuesdays dark. For a bakery of its size it has built a strong local reputation for bread and pastry quality rather than breadth of range.
