Sweet JaneBakehouse

Laurie MacMillan, who also owns Cafe Strange Brew, opened Sweet Jane Bakehouse in 2020 with Mesa co-owner Andrea Bartolini and chef John Meechan, who had previously worked at Ottolenghi and NOPI in London. The bakery sits directly across Duke Street from Mesa and takes its name from the Velvet Underground song. Bread, pastries and cakes are baked on the premises daily, with celebration cakes made to order and a steady trade in preorders for collection and local delivery. The shopfront carries a gilded window designed by Social Recluse and hand-finished by artist Rachel E Millar. The bakery has become a fixture of Dennistoun's food scene alongside the neighbouring Mesa and Strange Brew operations.
