The Ale House sits on Clitheroe's Market Place, run by Simon Forster as a free house rather than tied to any single brewery. Two small bar rooms sit at street level, decorated with pallet wood rather than fitted-out branding, while a quieter room upstairs is set aside for board games, small meetings or overflow on busy nights. Five changing cask ales rotate through the pumps alongside modern keg beers, craft bottles and cans sourced from Britain and abroad, plus a run of high-strength bourbons that Forster has built up over the years. Wine comes in from a nearby independent wine merchant rather than a national supplier. Live music nights and an open mic slot bring in players from across the Ribble Valley, and the pub takes part in Clitheroe's annual music festival each year.
