The Cobbles has been Kelso's dining pub for years — a modernised nineteenth-century coaching inn just off the square — and it doubles as the brewery tap for Tempest, the Borders craft brewery whose founder once owned the pub. Luca and Olivia Becattelli have run it since Luca took the tenancy in 2015, a decade behind the same bar, with a kitchen under head chef Daniel Norcliffe and a sideline that tells you where the family's heart also lies: Becattelli Artisan Gelato, their own small gelateria elsewhere in Kelso, disclosed here. A free house pouring the region's best beer, run by an Italian family who make their own ice cream: the Borders contains multitudes.
