A Gothic pile of 1879 — Grade II listed, replacing a King's Arms licensed here since 1807 — that Salford has kept as its arts pub: a theatre upstairs with a regular programme, a knitting club that has met weekly since 2007, and a house beer called Queen's Legs brewed by Brightside. The musician Paul Heaton and Zena Barrie took the lease in 2011 and built the pub's creative reputation; Lisa Connor has run it since December 2015 and kept the flame decidedly lit. It is the kind of pub where the function room earns its keep nightly, and the bar holds up its end of the bargain.
