Wee Bear Café was opened in 2014 by Gareth and Anne, attached to the Lodge at Lochside overlooking the Loch of Lintrathen near Kirriemuir. The name comes from the family's dog, Bear. Anne bakes all cakes and scones on site daily, and the brunch menu draws on the couple's interest in food from their travels, using local ingredients where possible. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options are available throughout. The café is seasonal, open from March to November, Thursday to Monday, and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was named Best Independent Café of the Year at the Courier Food & Drink Awards in 2020, with further shortlistings in the years either side. Seating looks out over the loch and surrounding hills, and the café is a stop on local motorcycle touring routes.
