Robert Wicks, a former biochemist and investment banker, founded Westerham Brewery in 2004 at Grange Farm in Crockham Hill, aiming to revive brewing traditions lost when the town's Black Eagle Brewery closed in 1965. The revival was possible because Black Eagle's head brewer had deposited freeze-dried yeast samples in a national culture collection decades earlier; Westerham now uses that yeast to produce Audit Ale and Double Stout. The brewery moved to its current site on Beggars Lane in 2016, adding a taproom and shop pouring cask and craft ales, wines and spirits. A terrace hosts rotating street food traders Wednesday to Sunday, and an upstairs games room holds over one hundred board games. Saturday morning brewery tours run by advance booking.
