Barrel & Bean opened on 4 October 2025 in a former dental training centre on Wickersley Road in the Brecks area of Rotherham, converting the ground floor into a micropub and café. Mornings are given over to coffee and tea; alcohol is not served until midday, when three real ales come on through handpump, drawn mainly from independent breweries in the region, with a fourth in the pipeline. Food runs to cold plates, stone-baked pizzas, cakes and sausage rolls supplied by a maker called Dene's. The rear room, once used for dental training, now serves as storage. It joins several other micropubs that have opened in converted commercial units around Rotherham, part of a wider pattern of small operators taking on redundant retail and office space rather than traditional pub buildings.
