Blandscliff Gallery and Studio stands on Blands Cliff, a steep stepped lane linking Scarborough's old town to the foreshore. It has been run since 2001 by a group of local artists who set it up together after finishing fine-art degrees, and it remains artist-run rather than commercially managed from outside. The gallery holds one of the more varied ceramics collections in the area, largely from potters working across the north, and stages three or four painting and drawing exhibitions a year, with sculpture from the resident artist in the studio attached to the shop. Glassware, jewellery and other small works are also stocked. The artists have painted murals on the retaining walls and building sides around the lane over the years, making the approach part of the gallery itself.
