Harriet Busby runs Border Berries from Rutherford Farm, on the A699 midway between St Boswells and Kelso, where her family has grown soft fruit since the 1960s. Visitors pick their own raspberries, gooseberries, tayberries, blackcurrants and strawberries from open fields grown without polytunnels, a method the family says produces sweeter fruit through direct exposure to Scottish sun and rain. A farm shop and café sell the same fruit ready-picked alongside scones, cakes, brownies and homemade berry juices and cordials, with eggs from Sandystones organic farm nearby and flour from Shipton Mill. Café packaging is compostable and composted on site. The farm opens seven days a week through the fruit season, from 10am to 7pm, with the café serving from 11am to 4pm. No booking is needed; pickers are given punnets and shown to the ready rows.
