Kingbee Records has traded from the same shopfront on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton since 1987, one of a shrinking handful of independent record shops left in the north west of England. The stock runs across genres, from early rock and roll and northern soul to punk, reggae, prog and disco, on both vinyl and CD, with inventory changing daily rather than being catalogued online in full. The shop draws collectors and dealers from well beyond Manchester, alongside locals browsing on a Saturday afternoon. Prices are kept close to fair market value rather than pitched at tourists, and staff know the stock well enough to point browsers toward records they didn't know they were looking for. The shop's yellow frontage on Wilbraham Road has become a fixture of the street.
