Markham Grange Garden Centre began life as a nursery on the northern edge of Doncaster and has traded independently for more than 50 years. It grew a reputation for fuchsias, at one point producing around 20,000 hanging baskets and cultivating up to 800 fuchsia varieties on site. The centre now stocks bedding and container plants, shrubs and trees alongside one of the larger ranges of garden furniture in the region. Additional attractions on the same site include a small steam museum, a pet centre and a restaurant, making it a destination visit rather than a quick plant stop. The centre also hosts seasonal events, including bonsai, flower and vegetable shows for local societies and a Christmas market. It remains family-run and independent, distinct from the chain garden centres found closer to Doncaster town centre.
